For the January ARTastic Challenge we were presented with an interesting image and concept which you can check out here.
Sometimes ideas come like the click of our fingers and at other times it takes a little while with no real connection until you start. This is how it was for me with this layout.
I was out on my early morning walk and disturbed a Kookaburra, who complained loudly but left me a wonderful gift. This became the basis of my layout.
There are very few photos from my early years. This is one of my favourites. I believe that my mum designed and made it for me. It was my "butterfly dress" and I loved it so much that I wore it until it was just shreds and bits.
There is a phrase from a Peter Allen song which says "Fly high, fly proud" and I have that way up high near the ceiling in my studio. It's a short phrase that reminds meof a fundamental for me. That I have to try. Try to reach, try to extend and lift myself to be the best I can be.
And so, some disparate items and feelings have come together to very much reflect the feelings that I have as 2013 begins.
I EXPLORED - Pan Pastels, Viva Decor Pearl Pens, a bit of fussy cutting and an ordinary lead pencil
We would love to have you join in the ARTastic challenge this month. What will spark you and get you creating? Can't wait to see your pieces. Remember too, it does not need to be a layout. Just make what you are inspired to create.

An adorable layout! Love your home made feathers!!
What could be more perfect for this challenge than this amazing photo from your childhood, Julie!! As a child at scout camp, we used to sing about the kookaburra! I love how you have worked the feather into your design!
Laugh kookaburra, laugh kookaburra. Gay your life must be, ha, ha!
What an awesome layout, so creative. And fabulous photo of you too :)
Ah Julie, that picture of you is just adorable and I love the dress that your Mum made. The layout is beautiful and uplifting! Hugs, Anne x
Hope all is well with you and those wretched fires have died down....A x
Inspired as ever Julie. The whole design serves to make your treasured picture even more special. Sending you massive hugs and best wishes. Jenny xxx
Julie, there is so much work in this piece - not least all those precisely placed 'pearls'! I so love the photo of you and can see how proud you were of that dress! What I like most is the sentiment behind this and that you say is fundemental to you: to try to be the best you can be - a girl after my own heart (even if it is sometimes painful though to strive so hard!). Take care, Juliaxxx
Amazing detail and wonderful texture and colors! I can see why you loved the dress, too cute!
I adore the picture of you!! So sweet! I loved reading about your artistic process, and working the kookaburra feather into the layout was a great way to share where the journey began. The pearls look fabulous on this and I'm wishing I had the same results when I used them!
