An encyclopaedia! Yes, one of those books that has almost gone the same way as the Dodo.
This was lush with a heavy cover - perfect for a collage piece. I was only slightly guilty about slicing up the book - after all I had rescued it from a pile about to be thrown into a skip bin.
I have a lot of my TTC Handmade product with no samples yet and so I decided to use one of my favourite sets - The Singing Bird Set in maroon! I loved making these, with all the painting and embellishing that makes every piece unique.
A piece of my Complex Paper - this one has metallics and layered stamping became the base for the collage.
It was cool enough to breathe yesterday, so of course that meant I could use Opals and layers of embossing on the edges. Using the heat gun was not as torturous as it has been.
The nest has lots of melty textures too but I wanted Mrs Bird's nest to be neat. Some of my braids have been used to make a strong handle so I can hang this piece where I can see it.
Already this month Super Star and I have been excited, nervous and also a little terrified at some of the possibilities the Cosmos has sent our way. 2013 is our year to Embrace Life and just like John F. Kennedy suggested to keep an attitude that has us answering, "Yes, Why Not?"
The other cool thing I love about this collage is that there are still another 3 panels to play with! Woo Hoo!
Loving the possibilities!
Julie
- With Mrs Bird's nest finished, I am just skidding in to the Sunday Stamper Challenge this week where Hels wants to know if my bird can sing? Mrs Singing Bird wanted to know if she needed to audition!
- Over at Simon Says Stamp and Show Challenge this week it is - What am I known for? I would have to say I am a "Fearless Experimenter." They don't want to know about the "Spectacular Failures!"
- Pan Pastel UK Challenge Blog has asked us to use a Nature Theme - of course Mrs Bird is always delighted to show off her nest!
- At the Frilly and Funkie Challenge they have a wonderful theme - Spruce it Up. My decrepit encyclopaedia is certainly no more! Mrs Bird is also chuffed to be out of the packet!

What awesome beauty!! Amazing work, Julie!
I think that encyclopedia feels a bit like the ugly duckling turned into a swan! It's just beautiful and I love the little birdie on the nest! And how lucky that you have three more panels to play with! I hope we get to see what you do with them. Thanks so much for playing along with us at Frilly and Funkie!
This is beautiful! I love the interesting little nest Mrs. Singing Bird has created!! The embossed edges are amazing and I can almost feel the texture from here! So glad you are getting a little break from the heat!
Your encyclopedia reminded me of a conversation in our home. Yesterday, my youngest wanted to know what one of her spelling words meant and I handed her my old dictionary. Her response "That thing is HUGE! How old is it?" Amazingly enough, she still managed to find her word in it...
